Yes, you can upgrade to a larger account size and you do not need to migrate your data to do this. If you want to downgrade your account, this is also do-able, but you need to make sure that your data is under the limit for the smaller plan that you would like. Renaming

Because of matters relating to licensing, we have decided to rename our "Nextcloud" line of products "Storage Share".

In addition, we have also changed the standard theme for the Storage Share instances, and we will assign a new domain nx*.your-storageshare.de for each instance. The prefix of the domain will not change.

WARNING: We will deactivate customers' old domains on 20 September 2019. Customers need to make sure that they change their domains beforehand.

Connection

You can use any browser to connect to your Storage Share. After going to the link, you will need to enter your username and password.

Overview

The Storage Share icon (top left) will take you back to the default file overview.
The app selection (to the right of the Storage Share icon) shows you which apps you have installed. The icons appear here after you install the apps. In the screenshot above, for example, you see a lightning icon for the Activities app and a photo icon for the Gallery app. You can choose which apps to install for your Storage Share; adding more apps lets you do more with your Storage Share. For example, you could install the Calendar app and sync the calendar with the one on your smartphone, or you could add the Mail app (an email client) so you can check your emails.
The search function (top right) will search for a keyword that you enter. This works for which ever app you're currently using.
The notification icon (next to the search icon) will inform you about new updates and other notifications.
The contact menu (next to the notification icon) lists all existing users and contact people for your Storage Share.
The profile image (upper right corner) opens a dropdown menu with settings, apps, users and the logout.

Default app (file browser)

The information field on the left contains filter and functions associated with the selected app.
The largest window in the Storage Share interface is the application field. It displays the content and user functions of the selected app.
The navigation bar is located on the left above the application field. It shows the current path and makes it easier to go back from the current folder.
The '+' button next to the navigation bar can be used to create folders and text documents or to upload files. Most web browsers also support 'drag and drop' uploads.
The overflow menu includes options for favorizing, copying, deleting, and downloading files as well as an overview for viewing files. You can access this menu by clicking on the three dots on the right-hand side.

User accounts and groups

Is there an administration account?

Yes, you will get an administration account. You can customize your Storage Share to fit your needs, and you can activate additional apps.

How do I add a user account?

Note that you will need the administration account to access the settings for adding new users. To add a new user, click on the profile picture on the upper right corner and select "users". You will be led to a list of all existing users for your Storage Share. To create a new user, you just need to click on the top left, on 'New user'. Then fill out the mandatory fields (username, display name, and password). Please note that each name can only be used once. In the 'Groups' column, you can add the user to an existing group. With the 'Quota' column, you can allocate a storage limit for a user. It is important to enter the desired storage unit (e.g. 60 GB, 1 TB, 700 MB). At the bottom left, you can find further setting options that include more user information, for example, languages, last logins, and email addresses.

How can I create groups?

If you want to create a group, click on the profile picture and then on "user". In the user settings, you should see a list of all existing users. To create a new group, click on the left on 'Add group' and enter a new group name. Please note that each name can only be used once. After you have created a new group, a new column will appear in which you can designate users as administrators of a specific group.

How can I check user activities?

Click on the lightning icon at the top of the app. You will see an overview of all user activities. You can set various filters in the information field.

I have forgotten my administrator password

Please use the password reset option on the login page for Storage Share. Enter your username or your email address for your account. You will get an email with instructions on how to reset your password. If this option does not work, please contact our support team by writing a ticket via konsoleH.

To upload files, you can use the '+' button or 'drag and drop' if it is supported by your web browser.

How can I synchronize files?

You will need the Storage Share app on your smartphone or on your desktop client so you can synchronize your data with your Storage Share. The following link will lead you to the downloads page for the various operating systems: https://nextcloud.com/install/#install-clients

Can I recover deleted files?

If a file has been accidentally deleted, it may be possible to find it in the "Deleted Files" folder. The folder is located at the bottom left. Whenever you empty the folder, please remember that all the data in this folder will be irrevocably deleted.

Can I tag files? If so, how?

Yes, you can. To create tags, find the specific element you want to tag and open the details view for it. To do this, first click on the overflow menu for the item (an icon with three dots) and then on "Details" in the drop-down menu. Then click on "Tags" next to the size tab. You can now enter tags in the line, and confirm them by hitting the ENTER key. Please note that all users on your Storage Share server will be able to see the tags. You can now use the information field to filter tagged elements.

How can I add comments to files?

Use the details view to read and write comments on a specific file. You can access the details view via the overflow menu (an icon with three dots). Your comments will remain visible even when you share your files.

How can I share files with other users?

To share a file, click the share icon to the left of the overflow menu (an icon with three dots). Now pick who you want to share the files with, for example, an individual user or a group. You can then adjust the permissions of the user or group you have shared the file with. To do this, click on the three-dots icon. You can remove shared access at any time by going to the "Share" overview. Click on the three-points icon and then and on the trash can icon.

Can I share my data with another user on another server?

Yes, you can share data between different servers using your Federated Cloud ID. To do this, you can find the Federated Cloud ID you need by clicking on your profile picture, going to "Settings" and then clicking on "Share". You will then see your Federated Cloud ID on the right-hand side. After this, you can open the share menu of the file you want to share, and on the line "Name, Federated Cloud ID or email address...". You can then enter the entire Federated Cloud ID. An example address will have a format that looks like this: "Admin@nx*.your-storageshare.de".

Can I share files with people who don't have an account?

Yes, you can. To do this, activate the "Share link" option right next to the file name. Click then on the + and copy the URL using the icon next to "Share link".

You can also send the link directly to an email address. To do this, enter the email address in the field "Name, Federated Cloud ID or email address...". You will then see the email address listed twice. Select the one with the mail icon on right. This will send an email with a link to the recipient.

Can I use server-side encryption with Storage Share?

Yes, Storage Share already has this as a standard option. Before you enable server-side encryption, you need to first activate the "Default encryption module" in the app's menu. After you activate this module, you can tick the checkbox "Enable server-side encryption" under "Settings; Administration; Security; Server-side encryption". Please note that encrypting data requires more storage space and may result in slower speeds. In addition, only our support team can de-activate this feature.

Additional Apps

Can I use additional apps?

Yes, you can activate additional apps by clicking on your profile image, and then on the link "Apps". In the following menu, you can install new apps, deactivate existing ones, and delete deactivated apps. Please note that we cannot offer technical support for additional apps that you activate.

Collabora/OnlyOffice

We hope to add support for these apps in the future (but we cannot say when this will be possible.) Until then, if you would like to use these apps with Storage Share, you will need to provide your own server. You could use, for example, our unmanaged dedicated root servers or Hetzner Cloud servers. You can activate Collabora/OnlyOffice via the AppStore, but you will need to use the other server for data processing. You as the customer are responsible for configuring this server yourself in the app's settings.

General questions

How can I change the URL in the sync client?

Before 20 September 2019, it is important that you change your domain to match the new pattern (if your domain is in the old format nx*.your-next.cloud): nx*.your-storageshare.de. We will deactivate the old domain on 20 September 2019.

Desktop client

Method for pros

One of our customers used this method and was nice enough to share it with everyone. We at Hetzner are not liable for any damage or data loss that may occur as a result of this method.

You can configure the domain directly in the corresponding configuration of the desktop client.

1. First, close the sync client.

2. Change the instance's address in the sync client's configuration file:

Linux:  ~/.local/share/data/Nextcloud/nextcloud.cfg
Windows: %APPDATA%\Local\Nextcloud\nextcloud.cfg
* Paths may vary depending on the operating system and type of installation you're using.

3. Restart the sync client.

Standard method

If the above method is a bit too tricky for you, you can also change the domain directly via the sync client in this more conventional way:

1. Synchronize your existing directories to prevent data loss.

2. Log out from your user account. To do this, go to "Account" and click on "Remove".

3. Then click on the "Remove Connection" button to delete the previous connection. Your data will remain unchanged during this step.

4. Restart the sync client and click on "Login".

5. Now log on to your new domain. The prefix of the domain will not change.

6. When you reach the login screen, enter your old login data and click on the "Log in" button. You may also see another screen after this ("Account access"). If so, click on the "Grant access" button.

7. Now you can set the folder synchronization as before. Please make sure to set the checkbox to "Keep local data". Otherwise your data will be deleted and it will have to be downloaded again.

8. Now you will be able to access your Storage Share again and it will be synchronized.

Mobile client

4. When you reach the login screen, enter your login data and click on the "Log in" button. You may also see another screen after this ("Account access"). If so, click on the "Grant access" button.

Android sync client

3. At the top, select the profile picture/initials of your user.

4. Select "Manage accounts".

How can I change the colors, logos, and names of my Storage Shares?

You can change the colors, logos and names of your Storage Shares to your own design. To change the design, first you need to activate the Theming app. To do this, click on the profile image and then under "Apps", and look for the app that's called "Theming". Click on "Activate". If you are asked for your password, then enter the password for the current user.

Once this app is installed, you can find it by going to the profile image and then to "Settings; Design". You'll see options for how you can change the Storage Share design. Here you can, for example, change your background color, your logo, and your background image. In addition, you can adjust small details, such as the logo for the header and the logo for the home button. You can also add a data protection policy statement and legal/contact information for your organization.

Can I use Storage Share with my smartphone?

Yes, there is a Nextcloud app for iOS and Android that is also compatible for Storage Share. You can download the apps from the following links.

After starting the app of your choice, enter your domain. Then log in with your Hetzner Storage Share user details.

How do we keep your data secure with Hetzner Storage Share?

We handle the security for your Storage Share in the same way as with our Storage Boxes. The Storage Share file system can tolerate several simultaneous drive failures. As soon as we detect any irregularities with our drives, we will exchange them immediately, thereby further decreasing the chance of failure to a very low level.

In addition, our Storage Share file system checks the integrity of the data using checksums and automatically corrects errors. We've created a high-availability cluster for the instance databases, making the chances of a complete failure very minimal. Finally, if you choose to synchronize your Storage Share data with your own computer or device using client software, you will have an additional copy of your data.

How are updates rolled out?

We at Hetzner Online will carry out updates automatically as soon as we have thoroughly tested them. You as the customer will not need to perform any updates. You will see notices from Nextcloud about updates, but you can ignore these. You will not be able to perform the updates. Our team will do that for you.

Will it be possible to create snapshots of the Storage Share instance, including the data on it?

A snapshot function is currently not available.

Is it possible to access the data stored in Storage Share via SFTP or FTPS?

No, it is not possible to access data on your Storage Share via SFTP or FTPS.

How do you prevent one user from accessing another user's Storage Share data?

The individual instances are isolated from each other using a container-based solution.

What does the "unlimited" storage quota setting mean?

An administrator can create users and limit their storage size. So you, as an administrator, can set up storage space for your users that are, for example 5, 10, 50, or 100 GB. Or you can set up an "unlimited" sized space. However, this "unlimited" space will actually be limited by the overall storage size of the Storage Share instance that you (the admin) have bought.

Can domains other than "nx*.your-storageshare.de" be used?

Unfortunately, it is currently not possible to change the domain.

Will the Storage Share also be offered at other locations?

Our team is carefully considering if we will be able to offer other data center locations in the future.
