Please note: this page describes the power usage measurement of a single colocation unit (1 unit), a product we no longer offer as of 01.10.2013.
Currently we only offer colocation racks and segments (1/3 rack), products in which the power usage is measured in realtime.

How is the power consumption of my server measured?

We use a power meter to measure the power usage of your server in Watts. The server is connected to the power meter and turned on. During boot (= drive activity) the consumption of power is measured. Then when the server is idle the power usage is also measured. We then take the average of these two measurements.
We subtract 50 Watt from this average and charge you for that amount, multiplying the amount of Watts by 35.70 Cents.
The server is then shut down and connected normally, ready for you to use it.


  1. The server uses 180 watts when booting
  2. The server uses 120 watts when idle
  3. We add those two values and divide by two: (180 watts + 120 watts) / 2 = 150 watts
  4. From this result the 50 inclusive watts are subtracted 150 watts - 50 watts = 100 watts
  5. The client must pay 35.70 Euros (incl. 19% VAT): 100 watts * 0.3570 = 35.70 Euros
  6. The additional power usage, in this case 100 watts, is noted in Robot and is automatically added to the next invoice
