Overview

This tutorial describes the outgoing migration of a .de domain (away from Hetzner to a new provider) with the aid of the Domain Registration Robot.

Basically, this involves the following steps:

  • Generate authcode ("AuthInfo") and notify the new provider.
  • Wait for successful transfer.

Generate authcode ("AuthInfo")

A password, also known as "AuthInfo", has been used to authorise Domain transfers via DENIC since December 2008. A .de domain can only be transferred from one provider to another provider if this password is known.

The AuthInfo can be called up simply and easily using the Hetzner Robot (Menu item "Domains" -> Click on the required domain -> Tab "Auth-Code").

Wait for successful transfer

If domain transfer is started by the future provider using the authcode, the domain will transfer automatically. As a Robot client, you will be notified of successful domain transfer by email.

Despite the domain transfer, web pages belonging to the old server continue to be shown

This is normal, as the nameservers in the Internet temporarily save cache entries for mailservers, webservers etc. until the validity period (TTL) has expired and so do not recognize the new data.

Furthermore, some providers ignore the given period of validity, migration should however be recognized by all nameservers between 3 and 5 days at the latest.
